Maybe Captain America really is hiding out on the moon! The MCU’s Captain America, Chris Evans, is teaming up once again with the Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johansson, in a new space race feature called Project Artemis.
Deadline broke the news today that Apple TV+ picked up the film with Evans and Johansson attached in a $100 million+ deal. Jason Bateman (Ozark) is also attached to direct, and the script comes from Rose Gilroy, the daughter of writer-director Dan Gilroy and actor René Russo.
The feature’s title will no doubt make some folks think of Andy Weir’s sci-fi book, Artemis. There’s no indication, however, that the Apple TV+ feature has any relation to the novel besides having a similar title. Artemis is also NASA’s program to return astronauts to the lunar surface in 2025 though again, there’s no indication this program has anything to do with the film. (The NASA program, however, does seem like a closer fit to the “space-race” description we have of the movie than Weir’s book.)
Project Artemis isn’t the only film Johansson is working on for Apple. The actor-producer is also attached to the sci-fi drama Bride, a film Johansson is also producing that follows a woman created to be an ideal wife by an obsessive entrepreneur.
No news yet on when Project Artemis will go into production much less premiere on Apple TV+.
